Aligarh Muslim University research scholar, Ms Asfia Shabbir from the Department of Botany has delivered a short lecture on ‘Polyacrylamide and Radiation-derived Oligosaccharides induced Regulation of Physiological Processes and Essential Oil Production in Vetiveria Zinanioides L Nash’ at the ‘65th International Congress and Annual Meeting of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA)—2017’ in Basel, Switzerland.

The UGC Human Resource Development Centre (UGC HRDC), Aligarh Muslim University recently showcased the varsity’s ‘Green University Project’ to at least 56 University and College teachers from various parts of India to observe the ‘World Environment Day’. These 56 teachers are currently in AMU to attend UGC HRDC’s Orientation Programme 146.

Aligarh Muslim University’s Senior Research Fellow associated with the Department of Botany, Ms Ambreen Asif is attending the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom for an advance research in ‘Genetic Mapping’ after being awarded the prestigious ‘Newton-Bhabha Research Fellowship’. Ms Asif is working under the supervision of Professor Adam Price in Scotland.
She is pursuing Phd in AMU with specialisation in Genetics and Cytogenetics under the supervision of Prof M Y K Ansari.
he Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University today mourned the sad demise of a former Reader associated with the Department, Dr Godavarthi Rajeswara Rao, who passed away recently after a brief illness.
Addressing the condolence meeting, Prof Mohd Yunus Khalil Ansari, Chairperson, Department of Botany informed that Dr Rao’s work on Cytogenetics and Plant Breeding is widely acclaimed and cited.
Research Scholar, Ms Afsheen Shahid associated with the Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University has been selected for DAAD Sandwich Model Doctoral Fellowship 2016 in a Bi-Nationally supervised doctoral programme 2016.
With the awarded fellowship, Ms Afsheen will now carry her research work at the Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg, Germany under the guidance of Dr Jurgen Kreuzwieser.
Professor Mohammad Anis, former Chairman, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University has been conferred with the ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ by Venus International Foundation (VIFA 2016), in recognition for his scientific contribution in the field of Morphogenesis and Tissue Culture.
He received the award in a special ceremony at the Hotel Green Park, Chennai presided over by Justice T N Vallinayagam, Judge, Lok Adalat, Madras High Court.
Dr. Tariq Aftab, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded the “Raman Fellowship 2015-16” by the University Grants’ Commission to visit USA for conducting research in Molecular Biology in relation to Food Security at Michigan State University (MSU), USA. This programme comes under the flagship of INDO-US 21st Century Knowledge Initiative. His research will explore the ideas to develop strategies in the field of crop production and global food security.
A large group of AMU research scholars from various Departments of Studies in Aligarh Muslim University presented their research papers at an International Conference on Free Radical Biology organized by the Departments of Bio-Sciences and Bio-Engineering, Integral University, Lucknow. About 300 eminent scientists from different countries including USA, UK, Russia, Saudi Arabia and those from different parts of India participated in the conference.
