Noted film and stage actor and director, who is also a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan recipient, Mr Naseeruddin Shah today delivered the ‘Professor Zahida Zaidi Memorial Lecture’ in Aligarh Muslim University’s Kennedy Hall Auditorium. The programme was organized by University’s Cultural Education Centre.
While talking about the journey from being an AMU student attending the Varsity’s Department of English to his illustrious career, Mr Shah pointed out that he owes his success to Professor Zahida Zaidi.
The Raleigh Literary Society, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University recently concluded Annual Function 2017 at the Arts Faculty Lounge. During the function, the Society organised various events like Speech Competition, Illustration of Proverb Competition, Power Point Presentation Competition and Spelling Bee Competition.
The Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University recently organised ‘ZARF 17’, a cultural and literary festival in the college premises.
The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran) on the behalf of the Executive Council and in accordance with the University regulations has constituted Internal Complaints Committee under Professor Shaheena Tarannum, Department of English as the Presiding Officer.
Professor Tarannum has taken the charge from Professor Seema Hakim, J N Medical College.
Mr Sidhartha Chakraborti, Assistant Professor associated with the Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University has been designated as the as a Fulbright Campus Representative.
Mr Chakraborti has been conferred the prestigious fellowship through a letter written by Mr Adam J Grotsky, Executive Director, United States-India Educational Foundation, New Delhi. The letter has been written to AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (Veteran).
Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai has recently been appointed as the Director of K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University.
Prof kidwai, who has been associated with the Aligarh Muslim University’s Department of English and UGC HRD Centre has contributed extensively over the years to Quranic Studies.
The Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC), Aligarh Muslim University recently organised a lecture series in the Department of English. Professor Isabel Karreman from the University of Wurzburg, Germany; Professor Simi Malhotra from Jamia Millia Islamia and Professor Saugata Bhaduri from JNU delivered special lectures during the series.
The Bengali Students’ Association of the Aligarh Muslim University recently organised a programme at the Strachey Hall of the Sir Syed Hall to mark the International Mother Language Day. Students of various linguistic backgrounds of India and the world attended the programme.
During the programme, Professor Samina Khan, Department of English, AMU talked about the significance of mother tongue in retaining one’s own culture and language. She also spoke on the rich cultural and linguistic diversity in India and the AMU campus.
