About Department of Library and Information Science - Aligarh Muslim University

 

The Department of Library and Information Science, AMU has its roots in the pre-independence era when the M.A.O College had Lytton Library. It started with books from personal collections of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. After the independence and seeing the growing need for a full-fledged modern library. The University inaugurated the present Maulana Azad Library. Since then M.A. Library has just improved, in size as well as stature. Today this library is regarded as 2nd largest in the sub-continent, in terms of University libraries. Maulana Azad Library has over 1.5 million books and ebooks. The library also has digitalized system for students to find books of their needs and interests.
