AMU Academic To Work NPM For Police Transformation
Every day police officers go to work — to enforce law, to make communities safer and to protect people and now to make the work of police more efficient, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (GoI) has inducted Dr M J Warsi (Associate Professor, Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University—AMU) as a member of Micro Mission-II (Community Policing) under National Police Mission (NPM).
Dr Warsi, will now work with NPM under Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) for transforming police forces in the country into effective instrument for maintenance of internal security and for meeting challenges of the next century.
“The NPM will be working on equipping police with the necessary material of intellectual and organisational resources for creating a New-Vision,” said Dr Warsi.
He pointed out that Micro Mission-II (Community Policing) has been empowering the police forces with skills and competence leading them to excellence and accountability.
“I will be working with the NPM to make police forces meet challenges such as asymmetric warfare, new trends in urban and social unrest, counter-terrorism and insurgency,” said Dr Warsi adding that NPM also aims to bring attitudinal changes in police, gender sensitisation and the use of best available technology.
He further said that the aim of micro-missions is to provide effective policing to the people and to implement the community policing system along with the traditional systems in the country.
“The role of Micro-Mission is to promote the networking of police organizations with educational and industrial forums for taking up studies to make policing methodologies better,” said Dr Warsi.
Dr Warsi is recipient of the prestigious Pravasi Bihari Saman Puraskar 2014 for his services in education and social work and the James E McLeod Faculty Award in 2012 by the Washington University, USA. He has also received the West Bengal Urdu Academy Award. He was a gold medalist of Aligarh Muslim University in his student days.
Dr Warsi’s book ‘Evaluation of Media Reach and Effectiveness: A Linguistic Exercise’ published by LinCom Euoropa, Germany is gaining popularity in academic circles across the world.
