AMU Alumni Meet Concludes with Hopes, Commitments

Delivering the keynote address at the valedictory function of the three-day AMU Alumni Meet-2014, noted scientist and CEO of the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance, Dr. Shahid Jameel said that the world is moving towards a knowledge economy and access to knowledge will be determined by the fact who moves forward to grasp it.

Dr. Shahid Jameel urged the AMU to move towards a completely networked campus. He said the University should provide WiFi access to all students and faculty members in each hostel and department. Computerization in administration will also reduce allegations of corruption.

He said that Smart Classrooms are not enough, it would require teachers to be equipped to use these.

Dr. Shahid Jameel urged the AMU alumni to be good ambassadors, role models and highlight the attributes they have received at AMU. He exhorted them to generate resources to their alma mater and not interfere with the running of the University. He said that there is a tendency to criticize every decision of the University authorities. This is not a healthy trend and urged them to provide honest feedback.

Dr. Jameel felt that despite AMU alumni being most passionate about their alma mater, their feelings have not been translated in concrete gains. He said that alumni should move from giving scholarships to knowledge generation and access. He said that they should involve themselves in promotion of quality education.
