AMU Gears Up For Alumni Meet 2017
As the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) gears up for the Sir Syed Bicentenary Annual Alumni Meet 2017, Professor Suhail Sabir (Chairperson, Alumni Affairs Committee) said that a session of women achievers will be a special highlight of the meet with panelists from different walks of life and careers.
Dr Hamida Tariq (Senior paediatrician and wife of AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor), Prof Naima Gulrez (Principal, Women’s College) and Prof Samina Khan will be the convenors to moderate the session on women achievers on the topic of ‘(Role Model for AMU students) Connect, Grow, Empower and Inspire’ .
Talking to the media in a press conference at the Alumni Affairs Committee Office, Prof Sabir said that Prof Yasmin Saikia (Arizona State University), Mrs Arifa Khanam (Senior journalist), Mrs Sabiha Said (Vice President, KPMG), Mrs Tasneem Rasol Boaz (Indian Railway Traffic Services), Prof Nuzhat Parveen Khan (Dean, Faculty of Law, Jamia Milia Islamia), Mrs Ghazala Kohkan Shamsi (New York, USA) and Mrs Taab Siddiqui (Owner, Harvest Gold Food India) are the panelists for the session on women achievers.
He added that Mr Tahir Mehmood (Former Chairperson, National Commission for Minorities, Government of India—GOI) will grace the occasion as the chief guest on the inaugural function on October 15, 2017. Mr Dawood Bin Ozair (CEO, Blue Star, UAE), Mr Ambarish Kenghe (Vice President, Myntra) and Mr Manoj Yadava (IPS, Additional Secretary, Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs, GOI) will be the guests of honour.
The Committee members said that Prof O P Kalra (Vice Chancellor, Pt, H L Sharma University of Health Sciences) will be the chief guest in the valedictory function on October 16, 2017, while Dr Abdul Wasey (USA), Mr Taher Madrasawala (USA) and Mr Ali Harris Shere (Vice President, Britannia) will be the guests of honour. “The visiting alumni and guests will also be taken for campus tour and many of them will stay for Sir Syed Bicentenary Celebrations on October 17, 2017,” said the members.
Dr Akbar Joseph A Syed (Member, Alumni Affairs Committee) said that the meet will reinforce the bond alumni share with their Alma Mater, make them meet the faculty who once taught them, network with their esteemed colleagues and share their experiences with the current batch of students.
The meet will also have a special session on Aligarh Open University (AOU), an initiative facilitated by the Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations (FAAA), North America. AOU makes AMU alumni settled in various parts of the world share knowledge and professional experiences with current AMU students.
