Dr. Athar Ansari of JNMC Appointed Coordinator For “Suraksha Clinics” by UPSACS
Dr. M. Athar Ansari, Chairman Deptt. of Community Medicine has been appointed as Coordinator for the supportive supervision and monitoring of “Suraksha Clinics” by the Uttar Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (UPSACS) under National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
Suraksha Clinics have been established by NACO at district hospital level in all the districts of the state to prevent and control the transmission of HIV/AIDS in high-risk groups and general population. There is also a facility of counseling of high-risk cases who indulge in abnormal socio-sexual behavior like female sex workers (FSW), men having sex with men (MSM) and intravenous drug users (IDU).
Dr. M. Athar Ansari, Dr. Ali Jafar Abedi, Dr. Nafis Faizi and Dr. S.N.A. Hashmi carried out supportive supervision and monitoring of “Suraksha Clinics” in Kanshi Ram Nagar (Kasganj) and Badaun Districts. All the necessary arrangement for the visits was made by Prof. M. Ashraf Malik, Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent, J.N. Medical College Hospital.
Targeted Intervention (TI) NGOs working in both the districts were also monitored. Large numbers of high-risk cases were identified by these NGOs. Monitoring team also conducted counseling and health education sessions for these groups in Badaun. Team also monitored Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) and checked the hospital waste disposal system. Supportive supervision in District Bulandshahar, Aligarh and Hathras was done by Dr. Meher Rizvi and Dr. Nasreen Noor. Other districts to be covered shortly are Bareilly, Pilibhit, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.
