Dr Saumitra Rawat Delivers Extension Lecture
Renowned Indian surgical gastroenterologist and Padma Shri recipient, Dr Saumitra Rawat (Head, Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi) delivered a university extension lecture on ‘New Modalities in Gastro-intestinal Cancer Surgery’ at the Department of Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Dr Rawat delineated how gastro-intestinal cancers are now increasingly diagnosed and treated by newer modalities such as Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery. He added that these newer approaches are feasible and safe effective while assuring the quality control. Dr Rawat pointed out that proper and adequate training of doctors, periodic holding of master classes, development of skill centres and perceptorship are essentials for quality outcome of treatments through these modalities.
While congratulating the Department of Surgery for organising the lecture, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor stressed the need for frequently organizing these events and training of the residents and faculty. He further said that punctuality and dedication by all residents and faculty members is a must for the overall development of this specialty.
Professor S C Sharma (Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal, JNMC) welcomed the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor and the guest speaker, Dr Rawat.
Professor Mohammad Aslam thanked Dr Rawat for the lecture and the Vice Chancellor for his vision and support. He also thanked faculty members and dignitaries attending the programme.
