Dr Warsi To Become Sahitya Akademi Member
Dr Jahangir Warsi, an associate professor in the Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will now design literary awareness programmes and methodologies to provide a platform of dialogue for writers as he has been offered the Sahitya Akademi (National Academy of Letters) membership.
The Sahitya Akademi Executive Board in a recently held meeting approved the nomination of Dr Warsi for the Advisory Board membership of Urdu language. Dr K Sreenivasarao, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi has written a letter to Dr Warsi seeking his acceptance for the membership.
The letter stated that as a member of the language Advisory Board, the Akademi looks forward to Dr Warsi for advice and guidance in matters pertaining to programmes, publications and suggestions in matters of Akademi’s function.
Dr Warsi joined AMU after teaching at University of Michigan, University of California and Washington University. He did M A Linguistics (1993), M Phil Linguistics (1994) and PhD in Linguistics (1998) from AMU. Dr Warsi is a recipient of the James E McLeod Faculty Award (2012) of the Washington University and has numerous publications in journals of international and national repute to his credit.
