Faculty Presents Research Paper
Dr. Rehan Ahmad Khan, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University presented a research paper, “Effect of Soil-Structure Interaction on Seismic Risk Analysis of Fan Type Cable Stayed Bridge” at 11th International Conference on Concrete Engineering and Technology (COCET 2012) at Putrajaya, Malaysia organized by Department of Civil Engineering, University of Malaya.
A large number of engineers, construction practitioners, scientists, researchers and academician from various countries participated and shared their knowledge, expertise and experience in the area of Concrete Engineering and Technology. Dr. Khan highlighted the importance of considering Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) in structures resting on soft soil. He also said that in certain cases if Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) is not duly considered in the analysis and design of Earthquake resistant bridges, then there could be catastrophic failure as evident in Loma Prieta Earthquake. Therefore, practicing engineers should be aware of consequences and if required, should incorporate SSI in the design of structure especially Bridges, Nuclear power plants etc.
