JNMC Conducts First Double Valve Replacement Surgery
The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC ) has more reasons to cheer as the first double valve replacement surgery was successfully done by a team of JNMC surgeons headed by Prof M H Beg (Chairperson, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery) on 24-year-old, Yogesh, who was admitted with complaints of difficulty in breathing.
"On investigation, the patient was found to have the disease of two heart valves,” said Prof Beg adding that both his valves were replaced and the patient has recovered completely. Yogesh, who is now discharged, had come from Bulandshahr to get the surgery done.
Prof Beg further said that the heart’s function is done through machine in this surgery, which makes it complicated. “However, JNMC has trained health care professionals such as Mr Sabir Ali Khan and Mr S Anwer Abbas Rizvi who are trained experts in managing physiological status of patients using the heart lung machine,” said Prof Beg.
Prof Beg added that the surgery was not possible without his competitive team members Dr Mohd Azam Haseen, Dr S Ehtesham H Naqvi and Dr Mamoon Karimi. He also said that anesthesia was given by Dr Nadeem Raza, Dr Manazir Athar and their team members. Post operative care was given to the patient by Prof Syed Moid Ahmad.
Dr Mohd Azam Haseen (Associate Professor, Cardiothoracic Surgery) added that they are regularly doing these kinds of surgeries at nominal cost while Dr S Ehtesham H Naqvi (Assistant Professor, Cardiothoracic Surgery) informed that very few medical colleges in North India are doing these surgeries.
Prof Mohd Amanullah Khan (Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal and CMS) congratulated the teams involved in the surgery.
