Judicious Utilization of Funds

In a review meeting with the chairmen of departments of studies of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis emphasized the need for judicious utilization of all the fund allocated to the department under XI Plan and creation of better academic and research environment for the benefit of the students.

While seriously taking note of the unspent substantial money allocated for books and journals for the two faculties, he said that the chairman and the teachers of the department should join hands and take forward the job of equipping the department on war footing utilizing all the grants placed at their disposal.

The Vice Chancellor urged the chairmen to utilize the approved allocated grant by the University under XI Plan for purchase of books and equipments by the end of December 2011 positively otherwise the grant will be lapsed.

He said that the UGC has sanctioned Rs. 149.62 Lakhs for the purchase of books and journals for Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences but still Rs. 59.87 Lakhs are remaining unspent in this head of account. He urged the chairmen to provide latest books to the students making best use of the unspent fund.

Prof. Azis further said that most of the chairmen of the departments of studies of both faculties have not utilized the UGC grant for the purchase of equipments and emergent measures be taken to utilize the money for the up-gradation of class rooms and lab facilities.

He urged the chairmen to prepare for the NAAC accreditation. He also said that the chairmen should initiate necessary steps and prepare a detail XII Plan proposal so that the department can get optimum grants for its future development.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis appreciated the role played by the faculty members in the smooth conduct of admission tests. He said that the number of candidates have increased substantially due to opening of new admission test centres in Srinagar (J&K) and Patna.

He said that the WiFi became a reality in the campus and now most of the departments have been connected with WiFi and the ICT facility.

Prof. Azis said that the expansion of the building of the Arabic, Islamic Studies, West Asian Studies have already been completed. The establishment of language lab in the Department of Hindi with a Rs. 17 Lakh XII Plan grant should also be completed by the department at the earliest, he asked the chairmen of Departments of Mass Communication, Library Science, English, History, West Asian Studies to expedite the process of completion of acquiringequipments and other works sanctioned under XI Plan grant.

The Vice Chancellor drew the attention of chairmen towards the expediency of bringing research projects into the departments. Every teacher in the department should be helped to get funding, he added.
