Prof. Faizan Mustafa Elected Vice President/President Of Indo-Canadian Shastri Institute
Prof. Faizan Mustafa, eminent jurist and senior most professor of Aligarh Muslim University’s Faculty of Law, was yesterday unanimously elected as the Vice-President-President of Shastri Institute of Canadian- Indian Studies which was founded in Canada by the Government of Canada in the memory of former Prime MIistr of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri. The institute is bi-national body of two governments and has 91 universities as its members. It provides fellowships to scholars and facilitates exchange of experts.
Mustafa will take over as Vice-President in June at the Annual General Council meeting at Hailifex, Canada and will eventually head the prestigious institute as President in 2018 when the institute will celebrate its golden jubilee. He was unanimously elected the member of its executive council in 2016. The institute has two executive council members from India.
Prof. Mustafa who is currently Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, has served as the founder Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Orissa and KIIT Law School. He has recently been re-appointed for a second term as Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR.
Known for his institution building abilities and democratic leadership, Prof. Mustafa has also served as Dean, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University and also as its Registrar. He is the Advisor to National Law School & Judicial Academy, Assam.
He has been visiting faculty to several reputed institutions in India and abroad and visited and delivered lectured in several countries of the world. He was awarded the prestigious SAARC’s Best Law Teacher Award in 2014. As a keen researcher and avid academician, Dr. Mustafa has authored 8 books and has about 150 national and international papers to his credit. Supreme Court of India has also quoted him. He was the member of several search committees for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors. He is also member of Governing Bodies, Academic Councils and Executive Councils of various leading universities of India. He was also Member of several University Grants Commission Committees.
Based on his seniority as Vice-Chancellor, has also become General Council member of Association of Indian Universities.
