Professor M H Beg Receives Godrej S Karai Oration Award
Professor M H Beg (Chairperson, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College—JNMC, Aligarh Muslim University—AMU) has been conferred with the prestigious ‘Godrej S Karai Oration Award’ by the Association of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons of India at Novatel, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh for his contribution in the field of thoracic surgery.
Prof Beg established and developed the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at JNMC in AMU. It was with his efforts that the JNMC began open-heart surgery in 1988. As a pioneer in endoscopic removal of various ‘Foreign Bodies’ from Aero-Digestive tracts, Prof Beg invented techniques such as designing the ‘Intercostal Tube Drainage System’.
He is a recipient of many awards and fellowships at national and international levels including the ‘Lifetime-Achievement-Award’ for contribution in the field Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery by Venus International Foundation.
Prof Beg has publications of 161 research papers in journals of national and international repute to his credit. He has attended 121 conferences in India and abroad and supervised 45 postgraduate students. He is in the editorial board of 11 national and international journals.
Prof Beg has held 30 academic and administrative positions in AMU and other places.
